1. Humility: many may not know this but I have a hard time talking about myself. I consider it rude and unbecoming if someone is always talking about themselves. It was the way I was raised. Plus, the people I admire most are the ones who do amazing things without needing recognition.
2. Sense of Humor: I always find the humor in every situation. I think humor is linked to intelligence and the more people exercise good humor, the more intelligent they will be. I love having good humor about everything. It also means I have a good attitude.
3. Extraversion: I love being around people and hanging out, working, etc. Though I do love my alone time, I do enjoy human beings in general. I think all people are good until they prove me wrong.
4. Trustworthiness: I'm one of those people who always is honest. Lying and dishonesty get you no where in life. Plus I'd be far to guilty to lie to someone. I would feel completely horrible. Trustworthiness is just a part of my personality.
5. Optimism/Warmth: I try my very hardest not to be a negative person. I think how you perceive the world is how it is, if you perceive it as negative then it will be just that. If you go into any situation with optimism, it will surely work out for the better.
Motive:
1. Tenacity & Resilience: All my life I have always been resilient. I think it is important for not only leaders but people in general to be resilient and tenacious. I can bounce back from any situation thrown my way.
Traits, Motives, and Characteristics I must work on:
1. Emotional Stability: Without sounding too crazy, I am ADHD: my emotions are always heightened and I feel extreme emotions sometimes. I am working on calming myself down and having a better sense of what emotions are appropriate at what time. My mother has definitely been a great help with this.
2. Assertiveness: I have trouble being assertive at the risk I will sound bossy or like a nag. I also fear that I will hurt someone's feelings or they won't like me if I'm assertive. I do realize there is a fine line between being assertive and being bossy and being assertive and not being a push-over, definitely something I am working on very hard.
3. High Tolerance for frustration: I tend to shut down when I get frustrated or I get really anxious because all I want to do is understand or be understood. This is something that has improved dramatically for me over the past year but it's definitely still something that needs to be improved upon.
4. Farsightedness & Conceptual Thinking: I sometimes have a difficult time imagining a goal in my head, if it's not right in front of me then its hard for me to picture.
Task-Related Attitudes/Behaviors:
1. Adaptability to the situation: I believe this is a behavior I have exhibited every week I've been in Costa Rica. Adapting to a new culture and place is an every day occurrence.
2. Risk-taking: See number 1.
3. Hands-on guidance and feedback: I'm like a mother hen to most of my friends here and back home, I'm always helping them out or giving them advice on academic and personal issues or dilemmas.
4. Organizing for collaboration: Many of my classes at Veritas require student-to-student collaboration whether it be for homework or projects.
